Using EBM Medical Products in Your Practice: Whatโ€™s Working (and What Iโ€™m Still Figuring Out)

READ TIME – 2 MINUTES

Hey everyone, Don here.

This week I want to answer a great question that came in from Allison, one of our podcast listeners. She asked whether she should consider using EBM Medical Products in her office and how it’s been working for me so far.

Full transparency: I’ve only been using EBM for a few weeks.

And if you think I’m a fast adopter, you’d be wrong. I’m actually pretty slow. Part of that is because I have partners, which is honestly a good thing. It forces us to slow down, evaluate, and make sure anything new actually makes sense before rolling it out.

Pricing and Markup

I kept this very simple. I used the markup EBM recommended and didn’t try to get creative. On average, patients are paying about $60–$75 per month per product, and so far that hasn’t been a major objection. Their markup is about $20 per prescription.

How I Present It to Patients

I don’t spend a lot of time talking about margins or economics. I frame it clinically.

I’ve mainly been using EBM products for:

  • Patients on blood thinners who can’t take NSAIDs
  • Patients with GI issues
  • Shockwave therapy cases
  • Fibromas (where I didn’t love my other options)
  • Neuropathy or chronic pain cases

My script is simple: “This runs about $60–$75 per month. Try it for three months. If it doesn’t help, stop.”

That’s it. No pressure.

What’s Made This Easy to Implement

A few practical things helped a lot:

  • I keep an EBM tab open in my browser during clinic
  • I copy/paste DOB, name, and phone number directly into the portal
  • I’ve created favorites for my most common prescriptions
  • I’m setting up a proxy account so my scribe can handle prescriptions

That workflow change alone made a big difference.

Early Results

So far, I’ve written 14 prescriptions. 4 haven’t been filled, which tells me this won’t be for everyone—and that’s okay.

Patients are filling most of them, and now I’ll start tracking outcomes and feedback when they return.

What I’m Building Next

I’m putting together an EBM Masterclass inside Podiatry Practice Mastery. It’ll include:

  • My favorite prescriptions
  • Resources from EBM
  • Podcast episodes where I talk through how I’m using it
  • Exactly how I’ve set this up in my office

All in one place, so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Here is the link - HERE

If you’re already using EBM, I’d love to hear what’s working (or not) for you.

Key Takeaways

  • Keep pricing simple and consistent
  • Frame EBM clinically, not financially
  • Set up workflows and favorites to save time
  • Expect some patients not to fill—and that’s normal
